COURT POLICIES:
1. APPEAL OF ASSOCIATE JUDGE’S RECOMMENDATION: If reduced to a Temporary Order, Judge will sign, but will not enforce until appeal is denied or becomes moot.
2. CHILDREN: DO NOT BRING CHILDREN TO THE COURTHOUSE. If the Judge or Associate Judge wants to talk to a child, a date and time certain for the conference will be set.
3. CHILD SUPPORT: Payment through Dallas County Child Support Office.
4. CONTEMPT: A prepared contempt order and order of commitment IS REQUIRED prior to hearing on contempt matters.
5. HEARINGS / SETTINGS / TRIAL: If you know that you need more than 30-45 minutes for a hearings, or otherwise need to make sure your case will be heard, obtain a special setting from the Associate Judge.
6. MEDIATION:
a) Custody/visitation: Mandatory.
b) Property: Not Mandatory.
Court will appoint a mediator only if the parties cannot agree on a qualified person. Usually costs are assessed one-half to each party. If parties are unable to pay for mediation, case will be referred to DMS or Family Court Services.
7. NAME CHANGE: Requires testimony or affidavit in support of name change. Person whose name is to be changed must consent to change.
8. PARENTING CLASSES: Required. Families First Seminar, presented by EXCAP.
9. PATERNITY ISSUE IN DIVORCE: If either Husband or Wife denies Husband’s paternity of a child born during the marriage, Judge wants paternity established.
10. PRIOR SAPCR: Must transfer and consolidate SAPCR into divorce action.
